The Application History view shows the complete patent prosecution timeline for your application, with direct access to all filed documents from USPTO PAIR — including previous office actions, responses, claim amendments, and notices of allowance.
Accessing Patent Prosecution History
Click "Application History" in the Source Documents section of the sidebar. The timeline appears showing all patent prosecution events in chronological order.
Timeline View
Each entry in the patent prosecution timeline includes:
- Event Date — When the document was filed or mailed by the patent examiner
- Event Description — Type of document (Patent Office Action, Response, Claim Amendment, Notice of Allowance, etc.)
- Document Code — USPTO document identifier code
- PDF Link — Direct link to download or view the original patent document
Events are displayed in reverse chronological order (newest first) so you can quickly see the most recent prosecution activity.

- Download the original PDF directly from USPTO PAIR
- See document metadata including filing date, number of pages, and document type
Importing Documents Into Your Analysis
You can add documents from the prosecution history to your current analysis so they are available for Chat with Documents and cross-referencing.
- In the Application History timeline, find the document you want to add (e.g., a previous office action, response, or claim amendment)
- Click Import next to that document
- The document is processed and added to the Imported Documents category in the sidebar
- Once imported, you can open it in the document panel, @ mention it in chat, and use it as context for AI questions
Importable document types include office actions (CTNF, CTFR, CTRS, CTEQ), amendments and remarks (REM, AMSB), patent application documents (claims, specification), examiner citations (892), petitions (PET), and notices of allowance (NOA). Documents that cannot be imported do not show an Import button.
Using Prosecution History for Context
The patent prosecution history is valuable for understanding the full context of your case and crafting a stronger office action response:
- Review previous patent office actions and responses to understand the examiner's position on your claims
- Check what arguments have already been made (and rejected) in earlier prosecution
- Identify patterns in the patent examiner's reasoning across multiple office actions
- Find earlier claim amendments that may affect claim construction and interpretation
Tip: Open the Patent Prosecution History in one pane and the current Office Action Response Strategy in the other pane to cross-reference previous prosecution events while planning how to respond to the current rejection.
