Chrome Extension — Analyze Unpublished Patent Applications from USPTO Patent Center

Install the patentreply.ai USPTO Connector Chrome extension to analyze office actions on unpublished patent applications directly from USPTO Patent Center, including non-final and final rejections.

Last updated: February 8, 2026

By default, patentreply.ai analyzes published patent applications available through the USPTO Open Data Portal. However, many patent applications are not yet published — typically those filed within the last 18 months. The patentreply.ai USPTO Connector Chrome extension bridges this gap, letting you analyze patent office actions on unpublished applications using your authenticated USPTO Patent Center session.

When You Need the Extension

You need the Chrome extension to analyze patent office actions when:

  • The patent application was filed less than 18 months ago and hasn't been published yet
  • The patent application has a non-publication request on file
  • You enter a patent application number and patentreply.ai reports that the application is not found in public USPTO data

For published patent applications, no extension is needed — patentreply.ai fetches the office action and patent documents automatically.

Installing the Extension

  1. Visit the patentreply.ai USPTO Connector page on the Chrome Web Store
  2. Click "Add to Chrome"
  3. Confirm the installation when prompted
  4. The extension icon appears in your Chrome toolbar

The extension only requires access to USPTO Patent Center — it does not access any other websites or browsing data.

Note: The extension is only available for Google Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave, etc.).

How It Works

The extension acts as a secure bridge between your authenticated USPTO Patent Center session and patentreply.ai:

  1. You log into USPTO Patent Center in your browser (using your existing USPTO credentials)
  2. The extension detects your session and confirms you're authenticated
  3. patentreply.ai communicates with the extension to fetch the application documents you need
  4. Documents are sent securely to the analysis pipeline — only the relevant documents are transmitted

Your USPTO credentials are never shared with patentreply.ai. The extension uses your existing browser session to access Patent Center on your behalf.

Analyzing an Unpublished Application

Step 1: Log into USPTO Patent Center

Before starting, make sure you're logged into USPTO Patent Center in the same browser where the extension is installed.

Step 2: Enter the Application Number

On your patentreply.ai dashboard, enter the unpublished application number. The system will detect that the application is not available through public data and prompt you to use the extension.

You can enter the application number in any format:

  • 18901459
  • 18/901,459

Step 3: Fetch Documents

Click "Fetch Documents". The extension retrieves the list of available documents from USPTO Patent Center, including:

  • Office Actions — Non-Final Rejections (CTNF), Final Rejections (CTFR), Notices of Allowance (NOA)
  • Claims — Current claim set
  • Specification — Full application text
  • Applicant Arguments — Previous remarks and responses

Step 4: Select the Office Action

Choose which office action you want to analyze. The most recent office actions are shown at the top. Supporting documents (claims, specification, applicant remarks) are automatically selected.

Step 5: Start Analysis

Click "Start Analysis". The extension securely downloads the selected documents and sends them to patentreply.ai for analysis. From here, the process is identical to a standard analysis:

  • Documents are parsed and structured
  • Rejections are analyzed (§102, §103, §101, §112)
  • A comprehensive strategy is generated
  • You'll receive a notification when the analysis is complete

Troubleshooting

"Extension Not Detected"

If patentreply.ai can't detect the extension:

  • Make sure the extension is installed and enabled (check chrome://extensions/)
  • Try refreshing the patentreply.ai page
  • Click "I've installed it" to re-check the extension status

"USPTO Login Required"

If you see this message:

  • Open USPTO Patent Center in a new tab
  • Log in with your USPTO credentials
  • Return to patentreply.ai and click "I've logged in" to re-check

"Application Not Found"

  • Double-check the application number for typos
  • Confirm the application exists in USPTO Patent Center by searching for it there directly
  • Make sure you have access to the application in Patent Center (you must be a listed practitioner or have authorization)

"Document Download Failed"

If some documents fail to download:

  • The analysis may still proceed with the documents that were successfully retrieved
  • Try again — the issue may be temporary USPTO server load
  • Check that your USPTO Patent Center session hasn't expired (log in again if needed)

Privacy & Security

  • The extension only communicates with USPTO Patent Center and patentreply.ai — no other websites
  • Your USPTO credentials are never shared with patentreply.ai
  • Only the specific documents needed for analysis are transmitted
  • All data transfer is encrypted via HTTPS
  • The extension does not store your documents locally

For more details, see the extension's Chrome Web Store listing and our Data Privacy page.
