Efficient navigation between patent prosecution documents is key to building a strong office action response. patentreply.ai provides several tools to help you move quickly between the office action, prior art references, patent claims, and AI-generated strategy analysis.
Sidebar Navigation
Click any document in the sidebar to view it in the main panel. Documents are color-coded to show their current state:
- Blue — Currently viewing in single view, or displayed in the left pane in split view
- Green — Currently displayed in the right pane (split view only)
- Gray — Not currently displayed
Controlling Document Placement
In split view, you can control which pane a patent document opens in:
- Normal click — The system automatically routes the document to the appropriate pane based on its type (analysis documents go left, source documents like the office action and prior art go right)
- Shift + Click — Force the document to open in the left pane
- Alt/Option + Click — Force the document to open in the right pane
In-Document Search
Each document panel has a search box at the top. Use it to:
- Find specific patent claim limitations, prior art citations, or examiner arguments within the current document
- Navigate between matches using the arrow buttons
- See the total number of matches (e.g., "3 of 15 matches")
- Jump directly to each occurrence with highlighting
Tip: The search highlights all matches in the document with a yellow background, and the current match is shown with a stronger highlight so you can easily spot it while scrolling.
Breadcrumb Navigation
A breadcrumb trail at the top of the page shows your current location:
Dashboard > Strategy 17914814 > §103 Obviousness Analysis
Click any breadcrumb to navigate back to that level. Click "Dashboard" to return to your patent analysis list.

Patent prosecution documents are organized into logical groups in the sidebar to help you find what you need:
- Overview — Executive summary and high-level navigation
- Analysis — AI-generated rejection analyses and response strategy
- Office Action — The patent office action being responded to
- Prior art — Each cited prior art reference from USPTO; use these to verify the examiner's claim mappings
- Application — Patent application specification, claims, and drawings

get_patent); these appear here and can be @ mentioned like other documents - Imported Documents — Documents you imported from Application History — previous office actions, responses, amendments; use these as additional context in chat
- Application History — Full prosecution timeline; view PDFs and import documents for analysis
- Workspace — Chat with Documents and Patent Claim Amendment Editor
